EXE Po 2026

From June 25 to 27, the entire Po River basin will be the setting for a national civil protection exercise focused on hydrogeological and hydraulic risk management. “EXE PO 2026” is coordinated by the Civil Protection Department, in collaboration with AIPO (the Interregional Agency for the Po River) and the regions of Piemonte, Lombardia, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto. The scenario for the exercise is based on the historic flood that struck the northwestern part of the country in October 2000.
The exercise involves activating specific coordination structures for flood management: for the first time, the UCC—the Command and Control Unit for the Po River basin—is being tested. Alongside the other civil protection activities on the agenda, “EXE PO 2026” also provides an opportunity to test the national public warning system, IT-alert, specifically for the risk of “large dam failures.”
