Pope Leo XIV Inauguration Mass: explore the interactive map with helpful information
The National Civil Protection Service ensures the successful execution of the event
The Inaugural Mass of Pope Leo XIV will take place on Sunday, May 18, starting at 10:00 AM, on the steps of St. Peter's Basilica.
The National Civil Protection Service will ensure the participation and assistance of the faithful and religious attendees during the ceremony. They will coordinate with the Prefect of Rome, the Government Commissioner for the Jubilee, the President of the Lazio Region, and the Mayor of Rome. Heads of state, delegations, and religious representatives worldwide will also be present to pay tribute to the new Pope.
More than a thousand civil protection volunteers will be stationed along the approach route to St. Peter's Basilica and throughout the Vatican area to assist participants, including medical assistance. To support the health protection plan prepared by the Lazio Region for the Inauguration Mass, the Department will deploy 20 nurse-equipped ambulances managed by Ares 118. These ambulances will be positioned at nearby train and metro stations, along the routes for incoming and outgoing traffic, and in areas with higher attendance.
Furthermore, the presence of civil protection operational structures (law enforcement, firefighters, and local police) involved in activities related to mobility and ensuring the regular flow of attendees has been strengthened in the affected area.
For those wishing to attend the Inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV, an interactive map created by the Civil Protection Department in collaboration with the Municipality of Rome is available, which includes:
- Routes to access gates

- Ambulances
- Chemical toilets
