IT-alert: the Marche Region tests the system for a major industrial accident

On July 15, 2025, the simulation will involve the Api refinery in Ancona

IT-alert

On July 15, the Api refinery of Ancona S.p.A. will test the IT-alert system for major industrial accident.

The facility, which is regulated under the Seveso directive, will host a broader civil protection exercise. As part of this event, a test of the public warning system is scheduled to take place. The alert message will be broadcast around 4:00 PM and will reach an area with a radius of approximately 2 km around the plant.

Regularly testing the IT-alert system is essential to verify its proper functioning and to ensure that, during a real emergency, the cell towers in the affected area provide adequate coverage. Additionally, testing ensures the effectiveness of the communication procedures outlined in the facility's external emergency plan.

For this scenario, the notification text that the affected population will receive will read as follows:

TEST TEST This is an IT-alert TEST MESSAGE. There is an ongoing SIMULATION of an accident at an industrial facility in the area where you are. To learn what message you will receive in case of real danger and to fill out the survey, go to www.it-alert.gov.it/en TEST TEST

On test days, the homepage of the IT-alert website will feature a link to a survey, which residents in the affected areas are encouraged to complete, even if they do not receive any notification.

Test dates may be subject to change if regional civil protection systems are activated due to hydro-meteorological alerts or emergencies.
